Bike to the Beach is the Nation’s largest autism century ride series. However, we more than a one day event. We are a national community, a lifestyle, and a family. We are a community of socially conscious and focused individuals that do not shy away from personal challenges and seek out ways to help our communities.
After 10 years of operating in Washington, DC and Maryland, we are proud to start our next 10 years as a national organization. We have been able to donate almost $3 million dollars to our autism partners and have set ambitious goals for the year.
In the proceeding 10 years, we have seen the formation of Autism Speaks and the growth of autism as a national movement and cause. We have also watch early diagnoses become teenagers, teenagers age out of our educational system, and young adults work on a journey towards independence and long term life solutions. It is with great momentum and a similar vision that we look towards this year. We hope to move autism advocacy from awareness to understanding and from acceptance to inclusion and civil rights. We hope to continue to see breakthroughs in science and services that unleash the potential of every individual.
“We hope to move autism advocacy from awareness to understanding and from acceptance to inclusion and civil rights.”
Bike to the Beach has grown in its capabilities and its power to affect change nationally and locally, but our strength continues to be our community. Each year we ask our past riders to come back and to find a new purpose to ride in one of our autism century rides.
What was once a daunting physical challenge may now be a cause based mission; what was once a bet by a friend has grown into a yearly reminder to commit to living a healthy life. What once seemed like a crazy idea now gives important grounding in reminding you to have fun in all that you do and to try to find a way to make a difference for others.
Whatever your call to action was, we hope to help you to continue to evolve and grow as a person, and we hope you will extend our community to people that you know. Remember, everyone has to be a first-time rider once. Don’t limit who you think can do complete the ride. Remember: Nothing is impossible for the willing, and, more often then not, our ride experience ends up being fun, transformational, and meaningful for even the most challened.
Take a stand for the autism community that needs our support. Join us as we start the next 10 years. Register for our Autism Century Ride Series today.
