A KEEN Parent's Perspective on ...
“KEEN has been a wonderful experience for my son who has severe autism and is nonverbal. As a youngster, he had so many difficult behaviors that we were forced to home-school him. At age 13, we had the opportunity to enroll him in KEEN, which we did with great trepidation because of his behavior issues. Well, he loved it. He loved it so intensely after the first session that he spent the next few months continually signing and asking for “DEEN” (his pronunciation of KEEN).
Since then it has become an “anchor activity” for our family. It is a crucial part of his schedule and a wonderful part of our lives. I’ve met other parents at KEEN and formed new and supportive friendships. We appreciate KEEN very much. We appreciate the top-quality staff, the excellent organization and the excellent training for the volunteers. The volunteers complete the circle. Many have told me how much they appreciate and have learned from my son.”
