Bike to the Beach’s goal is to strengthen community connections to raise funds and make an impact for the autism and disabilities community. Our events are structured to connect riders to each other and to the cause. For years we have done this through our century ride events. This year for the first time we will also offer a Virtual Event.
We realize that not every individual that wants to be an advocate for the autism community or to ride in someone’s honor can make it to the city or beach on the event date. We also have heard the pride riders have in consecutive rides completed, total rides completed, and their all-time fundraising rank. This is mixed with disappointment the one year that they have a direct conflict with the date for family or personal reasons. We wanted to find a way to enable these people to remain connected or join us for the first time.
We realize that, while we feel the ride event is the best way to connect people together and to the cause as advocates, in our current digital age, there are other ways as well. The Virtual Ride will be the same weekends as our Century Events. Registered riders will have their packets mailed to them, including jersey, t-shirt, sunglasses, and saddle bag. They can then hop on a bike anywhere in the world and commit to riding 50 or 100 miles over the 4 days from Friday-Monday, in any increments they feel comfortable. The goal is to challenge themselves and show their advocacy for the autism and disabilities community. They will get ride week tips and suggestions and upon completion will post a photo with their “Why I Bike” certificate to our social media groups.
They may not be with us at our beach, but we believe life is a beach, and whether you can physically be with us on ride day, you are still “with us” if you are up for a challenge and up to make a difference for individuals touched by autism or IDD. So, if you have relatives that can’t make it, or a friend that has their once in a lifetime conflict, share the news with them that they can still be a part of the Bike to the Beach magic.
