Extraordinary Minds (xMinds)
Partnership for Extraordinary Minds (xMinds) rides for autism because we want all students on the spectrum to be able to advocate for themselves. In 2018, xMinds held a self-advocacy workshop for middle and high school students. Not long after, Eli, a student with autism who attended the workshop, reported that he used his newly-found advocacy skills to assert his need for technology accommodations that were not being supplied to him. These accommodations were expressly stated in Eli’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and by learning how to read and understand his own IEP, Eli found and self-advocated to successfully obtain the resources he needed.
